A document package, not just one certificate

Citizenship restoration cases often involve several generations and documents issued in different countries or periods. The required evidence depends on the applicant’s circumstances and on the instructions provided by the Migration Department, a Lithuanian consular office or the applicant’s legal representative.

AIRV prepares the documents you have been instructed to submit. We do not decide whether a person is entitled to Lithuanian citizenship or determine the complete legal evidence required for a particular case.

Documents commonly translated

Depending on the case, citizenship document packages may include:

Common document packages from different countries

AIRV assists citizenship-restoration applicants living in Brazil, Israel, the United States and many other countries. The documents and source languages vary according to each family’s history, so the examples below are practical patterns rather than a universal checklist.

Documents from Brazil

Brazilian citizenship-restoration packages commonly contain Brazilian Portuguese-language civil-status, naturalisation and supporting documents. We frequently translate:

1. birth, marriage and death certificates

2. naturalisation certificates

3. police clearance and criminal record certificates

4. applications for restoration of Lithuanian citizenship

5. powers of attorney

6. stamps, visas and other relevant entries appearing in passports.

A full translation of the passport itself is not normally required when the authority has asked only for particular stamps, visas or entries. The requested scope should be confirmed from the instructions for the individual application. Brazilian public documents are frequently supplied with apostilles, whose text, stamps and notes must also be included in the translation scope.

Documents from Israel

Citizenship-restoration packages connected with Israel frequently contain documents issued in different periods and languages. Common examples include:

1. birth, marriage and death certificates

2. extracts from the Israeli Population Registry

3. documents confirming changes of name or surname

4. passports, visas and relevant passport entries

5. archive certificates and other records required for the application.

Documents from the United States

Applications connected with the United States may rely on birth and marriage records, census records, naturalisation documents and other evidence used to demonstrate a family or migration history. Existing informal or partial translations should also be sent for reference, but the authority may require a new certified translation of the complete document.

Documents from other countries

We also work with citizenship-restoration documents issued in many other jurisdictions and languages. Send the complete package and the instructions received from the Migration Department, a consular office or your legal representative, and we will assess the translation and certification work required.

The complete document normally needs to be translated

If the authority requires a translation prepared by a recognised translator or translation agency, an informal or partial translation made by a colleague is not sufficient. The certified translation should normally cover the complete relevant document rather than only selected names, dates or lines.

Send every page and both sides. A missing reverse side, stamp, apostille or handwritten note can change the scope, price and usefulness of the completed translation.

How the process works

1. Send the full document package. Email clear scans of every page and both sides, including apostilles, stamps and any existing translations.

2. Tell us how the documents will be submitted. Mention whether they are for the Migration Department, MIGRIS, a Lithuanian embassy or consulate, or your legal representative.

3. Receive one package quotation. We review the language, volume, handwritten content, certification requirements and delivery format before confirming the price and timeline.

4. Translation and certification. We translate the agreed documents into Lithuanian and certify them with the translation bureau’s stamp and the translator’s signature. Notarisation can be arranged when specifically required.

5. Receive digital or paper documents. We can provide an agreed electronic version and prepare paper translations for collection, courier delivery or international shipping.

Certified, notarised or sworn translation?

Clients from Brazil and other countries often ask for a sworn translation. Lithuania does not use exactly the same sworn-translator model as every other country. For Lithuanian procedures, AIRV prepares translations certified with the translation bureau’s stamp and the translator’s signature. If the receiving authority specifically requires notarisation, we can arrange it separately.

Do we need the originals?

Clear scans are sufficient for the initial assessment and for starting many translations. Physical originals may be required when notarisation is requested, when a translation must be attached to an original, or when the receiving authority needs to inspect the original document.

For native digital documents or electronic apostilles, send the complete original electronic file and any validation information available. The receiving institution decides whether that electronic document is acceptable for the intended procedure.

Apostille or legalisation

Foreign public documents may need an apostille or legalisation before they can be used in Lithuania. The correct route depends on the issuing country, applicable international agreements and the type of document.

Obtain the required authentication before the final translation package is prepared whenever the instructions for your case require it. AIRV can translate the apostille or legalisation text, but the authority responsible for the application determines whether the source document has been authenticated correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Are AIRV translations suitable for Lithuanian citizenship applications?

Yes. AIRV prepares translations for Lithuanian citizenship restoration procedures and certifies them with the translation bureau’s stamp and the translator’s signature. If an authority identifies a problem, it may relate to the source document or application package – for example, a missing apostille, stamp, page or supporting document – rather than to the AIRV certification format.

Does the apostille need to be translated?

Yes. When an apostille forms part of the document submitted in Lithuania, its text is included in the agreed translation scope. Send the apostilled version before the final quotation whenever possible.

Can you use a translation prepared by my colleague?

It may be useful as reference material, but it does not replace a certified translation when the authority requires the translator’s signature and translation-agency certification. We assess and translate the full required content from the documents provided.

Do I need a notarised translation?

Not in every case. Translation-bureau certification is used for many citizenship submissions. Notarisation is arranged when the instructions for your application specifically require it.

Can I order everything while living abroad?

Yes. The assessment, quotation, payment and most communication can be handled remotely. If originals are needed, they may be shipped to our Vilnius or Kaunas office with your contact details.

Can AIRV advise whether I qualify for Lithuanian citizenship?

No. AIRV translates and prepares documents but does not provide a legal determination of citizenship eligibility. Please confirm the legal basis and required document list with the Migration Department, a Lithuanian consular office or your lawyer.
