Document Translation for International Students in Lithuania

One student journey may involve several document processes

Documents required for admission are not always the same as documents required for academic recognition or a temporary residence permit. The correct package depends on your education, country of issue, study programme and the instructions of the receiving institution.

AIRV prepares the translations you have been asked to submit. We do not determine whether a student is eligible for admission, recognition or a residence permit.

Documents commonly translated for international students

1. secondary education certificates and school-leaving diplomas;

2. university diplomas, diploma supplements and academic transcripts;

3. examination results, grade statements and other education records;

4. Police Clearance Certificates and other criminal-record documents;

5. birth certificates, marriage certificates and name-change documents;

6. documents proving residence, previous studies or Lithuanian origin when requested;

7. apostilles, legalisation stamps, seals and handwritten annotations;

8. other supporting documents specified by the university, LAMA BPO, SKVC or MIGRIS.

This is not a universal student-document checklist. Always follow the requirements provided for your own admission, recognition or migration process.

University admission, LAMA BPO and academic recognition

Applicants with qualifications obtained abroad may be asked to submit education documents through a university, the LAMA BPO admissions system or the Centre for Quality Assessment in Higher Education (SKVC). The accepted language and certification format depend on the specific route.

Official guidance may allow documents or translations in Lithuanian or English in some admission and recognition procedures. Do not order a translation based on assumptions: send us the exact institution’s instructions so that we can quote for the correct target language and certification format.

Student residence permits and MIGRIS

Students from outside the EU may also need Lithuanian translations for a temporary residence permit application submitted through MIGRIS. These can include a Police Clearance Certificate, civil-status documents or other supporting records requested for the particular application.

AIRV knows how to prepare translation-bureau-certified translations for submission through MIGRIS. If the Migration Department identifies an issue, it is normally connected with the source document or the application package – for example, a missing apostille, legalisation stamp, page or supporting document – rather than the AIRV certification format.

Important: confirm the source language

Some documents contain an original text in one language and an official or informal English translation. The university, Migration Department or another authority may specify that the Lithuanian translation must be prepared from the original language.

Send both the original-language document and every existing translation. We will assess the material and confirm the proposed language pair before the order begins.

The complete document normally needs to be translated

Official submissions usually require all relevant text: every page, both sides, stamps, seals, apostilles, endorsements and readable handwritten notes. A partial translation prepared by a colleague may not satisfy the receiving institution.

Send complete scans. A missing reverse side, apostille or stamp can change the quotation and may delay the student’s application.

How the process works

1. Send the complete document package. Email clear colour scans of every page and both sides, including apostilles, stamps and any existing translations.

2. Tell us where the documents will be submitted. Specify the university, LAMA BPO, SKVC or MIGRIS process and attach the instructions you received.

3. Receive one clear quotation. We confirm the language pair, translation scope, certification, turnaround time, price and required delivery format.

4. Send originals only when required. If the translation must be attached to an original, notarised or physically delivered, originals can be sent directly to our Vilnius or Kaunas office.

5. Receive or forward the completed documents. We can send an agreed electronic copy, prepare paper documents and arrange delivery to you, a Lithuanian university or another address.

Can AIRV collect documents from a university?

Yes, when the university agrees to release the documents to our representative. We will need the responsible person’s contact details and, if requested by the university, your written authorisation. We can collect the original, prepare the translation and return the document to the university.

Can original documents be sent directly to AIRV?

Yes. Originals may be shipped directly to our Vilnius or Kaunas office from you, a university, an embassy or another institution. Include your full name, email address, telephone number and information about where the completed documents will be used.

Electronic and paper delivery

1. a signed and stamped PDF scan;

2. an electronically signed ADOC document when suitable and agreed;

3. a certified paper translation;

4. delivery to a Lithuanian university or another institution;

5. courier or international shipping to your chosen address.

The receiving institution decides which format it accepts. If it has specified PDF, ADOC or paper originals, send us that instruction before production.

Frequently asked questions

Are AIRV translations accepted for MIGRIS applications?

Yes. AIRV prepares translation-bureau-certified translations in the format required for MIGRIS submissions. If the Migration Department raises a question, we help identify whether the source document or application package is missing a required page, apostille, stamp or other supporting element.

Does every education document need to be translated?

Not necessarily. Some institutions accept certain documents in English or other specified languages. Follow the instructions for your own admission or recognition route and send them to us before ordering.

Do I need a notarised translation?

Not in every case. A translation certified with AIRV’s stamp and the translator’s signature is used for many university and migration submissions. Notarisation is arranged when the receiving institution specifically requires it.

Do apostilles and stamps need to be translated?

Yes, when they form part of the document being submitted and contain text relevant to the official record. Send clear scans of every stamp, seal and apostille.

Can you send the translation directly to my university?

Yes. We can arrange delivery to a Lithuanian university, admissions office or another institution. Provide the full address, department, contact person and telephone number.

Can I order from abroad?

Yes. Assessment, quotation and most coordination can be completed remotely. If originals are needed, they may be sent directly to AIRV or collected locally when this has been agreed with the institution holding them.
